New Brewery Tour: Makgeolli, Giants & The Great Outdoors

One of the things we missed most during three months of more severe social distancing, was undoubtedly the outdoors. When the outbreak in Daegu was running its course, I could easily count on one hand how many times I left the house. Even though Korea was not on lockdown, we were happy to close our tours and classes to focus on whatever we could online.

But now as Korea continues to work hard at creating a 'new normal' way of operating, The Sool Company is also slowly adjusting and creating experiences that fit the times. Our makgeolli making classes are set to begin again in July, and we are constantly looking for new ways to safely bring sool to the community.

During those darker months, one of the ways we got through was by keeping in touch with fellow entrepreneurs and business owners in Korea as a means to support each other. Out of these difficult circumstances formed new partnerships and creative ideas, and that means collaboration!

If you haven't heard of Hallie Bradley of The Soul of Seoul, do yourself a favour and get lost in her blog immediately (no, wait after you read this!). Hallie is also a longterm resident of Korea, and she has a very particular set of skills. As Korea's premier influencer, Hallie has unrivalled knowledge of the most unique and picturesque spots on the peninsula. Mention a region in Korea, you can bet she knows the hidden gems even locals haven't discovered yet.

So when we got to talking recently about all the awesome places in Korea, we thought....with our powers combined! And so we put our heads together to create a boutique, carefully curated experience that would give guests a chance to get out of the stress of the city but also come away with unforgettable memories.

We are excited to present, 'Makgeolli, Giants & The Great Outdoors'. A one-day experience in Pocheon that focuses on Korean alcohol history and culture, fantastical art installations deep in the forest, authentic local cuisine and some of the most delicious and hard to find makgeolli in the country.

The first stop of the day is the beautiful 'Sansawon'
After working up a hunger, we stop for an authentic local lunch
Shake off those quarantine blues by getting lost in the forest, searching for the peaceful 'Forgotten Giants'
The icing on the cake is sampling a true artisan's incredible makgeolli line

This tour is all about meaningful experiences. A one of a kind day filled with good food, good booze, and enchanting scenery. Most importantly we will be guiding you throughout the day, sharing all our knowledge and tips about the Korea we know and love. We have already tested it a bunch of times, and can't wait to do it again!

As with all things in a Covid-19 reality, we will be conducting this tour as safely as possible. We will limit the guest numbers to 12 people, masks will be required and hand sanitizer will be provided. We will also be checking temperatures as guests board the bus. The best part about this tour, and in great part why we designed it, is that you can really spread out and be in your own space!
